The federal government has announced plans to refund excess charges from overbilling on this month’s electricity bills, providing relief to consumers. A reduced tariff will apply to additional units billed under the pro-rata system, with protected category consumers paying 13 rupees per unit instead of 27. Credits for excess charges will be applied to current bills, and any overpaid amounts will be refunded. NEPRA has also waived late payment penalties.

This decision follows an investigation by the NAB and FIA into billing discrepancies, including missing reading dates on bills and lack of clear explanations from Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO).”
