Sunday: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif went to London for Queen Elizabeth’s state funeral.
The PM met King Charles III during the reception hosted for all the visiting foreign dignitaries in London.
Shehbaz Sharif extended condolences to the King and stated that the late monarch was a source of strength and inspiration for generations of Commonwealth citizens.
Recalling the fond memories that the people of Pakistan had of the late queen’s two visits to the country, PM stated, “The bond of affection between the Royal family and the Pakistani nation had only strengthened with time.”
The premier also conveyed best wishes to King Charles III on his accession to the throne on behalf of the citizens and government of Pakistan. PM also expressed the hope that he would carry on the legacy of his mother Queen Elizabeth II in further strengthening the friendship between Commonwealth nations.
Shehbaz also said he looks forward to welcoming the King to Pakistan and thanked the British monarch for their sympathy and support in the wake of the devastating floods. He said, “The appeal for help and the response from both the British government and the public was deeply appreciated in Pakistan.”
The funeral of Queen Elizabeth will take place in Westminster Abbey in London on September 19th, at 11:00 BST.
PM Shehbaz will leave for the United States after attending the funeral to address the 77th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
