The All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) has expressed grave concerns regarding the declining law and order situation, which poses a significant threat to their substantial investments.
According to the APCMA spokesperson, the law and order situation in Dera Ismail Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Kohat, Mianwali, and neighboring areas has severely disrupted the daily operations of cement units in these areas.
The spokesperson mentioned that recently, terrorists abducted workers from a cement unit in one of the aforementioned areas, resulting in the death of one worker. Terrorists typically demand substantial sums of money as extortion and issue threats of severe repercussions if their demands are not met.
The government must implement stringent measures to address and regulate the law and order situation in these areas,” stated the spokesperson.
He further emphasized that the cement industry is currently in an expansion phase, with significant investments planned. However, this situation poses a threat to these investments and could result in long-term challenges for the industry.
Furthermore, the industry’s investment of billions of rupees in the affected areas has also been jeopardized by these terrorist activities,” the spokesperson remarked. He also noted that this worsening law and order situation could potentially threaten local employment and contribute to unrest in the region.
