To tackle the surging prices of broiler chicken, the Punjab Food Ministry has initiated measures by prohibiting the export of chicks. Reports suggest that the Livestock Department has prepared a proposal for this ban, which has now been submitted to the Punjab government for deliberation.
The reports added that implementing this ban could potentially lead to a reduction of Rs 200 per kilogram in the price of chicken. They stated that typically, surplus goods are exported, but in this case, there is a significant shortage.
The significant price hike in the provincial capital has been attributed to the flawed policies of the previous administration. Despite facing a local shortage, prices have surged as a result of exports.
