Mari Petroleum Company Limited (PSX: MARI) has reported an oil discovery following its exploration activities at the Shawal-l well, situated in Mari D&PL in Sindh. The exploration company notified the main bourse about this development on Monday.
As per the filing, the Shawal-l well was initiated on January 27, 2024, and effectively drilled to a depth of 1,136 meters into the Ghazij Formation.
Upon testing, the well yielded 1,040 barrels of crude oil with an approximate API gravity of 30 degrees, alongside 12 percent Basic Sediment & Water (BS&W), in addition to 2.5 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of associated gas at a wellhead flowing pressure (WHFP) of 953 pounds per square inch (Psi) with a choke size of 32/64 inches.
This marks the inaugural oil discovery in Mari D&PL, which has been primarily engaged in gas production since 1967.
MPCL operates Mari D&PL, holding a 100% working interest in the area.
