2Million+ Students Could Lose Education Due to Floods in Sindh

Sindh Govt Imposed Education Emergency

After the devastating floods in the region, over 2 million students could lose their right to education due to the massive destruction and damage. Nearly 16,000 schools and colleges have been affected due to floods. The Sindh government has imposed an Education Emergency in the province.

Speaking in this regard, Syed Sardar Ali Shah, Sindh Education, and Culture Minister said that “the education sector in the province has suffered significant damage following the devastating floods.”

The Education Ministry is considering establishing tent schools in flood-affected areas of the province. The government is also taking measures to ensure the estimated number of students remains engaged in the education process.

Syed Sardar Ali Shah also called on domestic and international NGOs to assist the government in rehabilitation operations as citizens would be unable to bear the academic expenses of their children.

A UK-based organization, Save the Children revealed that over 18,500 educational institutes have sustained partial or complete damage due to the devastating floods caused by torrential monsoon rains in Pakistan.

More than 670,000 students have been affected due to the destruction floods have caused all over the country. Educational supplies including books, copies, chairs, tables, and boards worth millions of rupees have been destroyed as well. Sindh remains the most-affected province as far as education is concerned.
