Friday: PTI Chairman and Former prime minister Imran Khan have been disqualified from running for political office for five years by the Election Commission of Pakistan.

The decision has triggered protests in various cities.

The decision came after the ECP ruled Khan had misled officials about the gifts he received from various foreign leaders while he was in power.

Gohar Khan, Khan’s lawyer reported to the media adding that Khan had been disqualified for five years, “The ECP (Election Commission of Pakistan) has declared Imran Khan was involved in corrupt practices.”

PTI senior leader Fawad Chaudhry called the decision “embarrassing” and a “slap in the face” of Pakistan’s people.

He also said, “We are going to challenge it in the Islamabad high court right now.”

“This verdict is not an attack on Imran Khan only. It is an attack on Pakistan’s constitution and its people,” Chaudhry further added.

Earlier, the PTI won Khan huge support and his party won on a large scale in by-polls that took place last week and in July.

The decision has triggered protests in various cities and also trending on Twitter.

In Islamabad, the situation went out of control, and they used tear gas to control the protestors.

PTI workers also rallied at the Faizabad interchange as the police tried to stop them from marching into Islamabad by shelling.
