Elon Musk’s SpaceX has announced the first space tourists, Dennis Tito and his wife Akiko that will fly around the moon on Starship rocket.
Tito, 82, is an engineer-turned-financial analyst was the first person to pay for a journey to space on Russia Soyuz TM-32 mission in 2001 as well as spent 8 days on the International Space Station (ISS).
Starship will take the Tito and his wife within 200 kilometers distance of the moon without ever landing on it. The first passengers include Tito, his wife, and 10 others.
Although, Tito is not revealing the cost of the trip but his previous trip with ISS costed $20 million or €20.5 million.
The trip with take a week and this will be SpaceX’s rocket’s second commercial trip around the moon.
SpaceX is yet to reveal the launch date. Elon Musk has decided to transport people to moon and Mars.
Along with Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic, SpaceX is working to make space travel possible for human. Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin also offers sub-orbital rides at 350K feet.
