World Bank Plans to Provide Support of $1.7 Billion To Pakistan

Thursday: World Bank announced the plan of supporting flood-related projects by giving donations of up to 1.7 billion USD. World Bank also plans to provide 22.2 million USD support for the rehabilitation of flood-affected farmers.

South Asia Regional Director of Sustainable Development, John Roome, and South Asia Regional Vice President of World Bank, Martin Raiser, show support of solidarity with the flood-hit country and said that the heavy flooding in Pakistan has caused an economic crisis for the developing country Pakistan. World Bank will provide support by investing in existing projects and starting new projects for the development of flood-hit areas in Pakistan. 

While meeting with Pakistan Power minister for Engineering, Kurram Dastagir Khan, World Bank Regional Vice President Martin Raiser said, “The World Bank plans to provide flood-related support of up to $ 1.7 billion through existing and new projects. This could be in form of strengthening social security programs, new emergency operations to help in rehabilitation, and long-term resilience efforts.”

In a separate meeting with Pakistan Food Security Minister Tariq Bashir Cheema, Regional Director of Sustainable Development John Roome said, “The World Bank will help Pakistan, in this economic crisis, through projects targeted to rehabilitate the affected community. The World Bank is also working with provincial agriculture departments to support the farming community.”
