Residents of Karachi are urged to brace themselves for a notable increase in summer heat, as the apparent temperature is anticipated to climb to 40 to 42 degrees Celsius in the upcoming days.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has released a prediction suggesting warm and humid conditions for Karachi in the next 24 hours. Maximum temperatures are expected to vary between 35°C to 37°C, while the minimum temperature is forecasted to be 27.3°C.
Sardar Sarfaraz, the Chief of the Meteorological Department, has stressed that Karachi will encounter hot and humid weather conditions for the following ten days, with temperatures possibly soaring to 36 degrees Celsius.
Furthermore, a rise in temperature is expected starting from May 17 onwards, accompanied by elevated humidity levels. Regrettably, there are no prospects of rainfall in Karachi during this period. Presently, winds in the city are blowing at a speed of 11 kilometers per hour, with humidity levels standing at 70%. This combination of factors is likely to intensify the heat sensation for residents.
Weather analyst Jawwad Memon suggests that there might be some relief from the heat in the evening, although the atmosphere is predicted to remain partly cloudy. Additionally, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning regarding a potential nationwide heatwave looming this month, which could result in heightened temperatures across the country. Throughout the week, numerous areas of Pakistan are anticipated to encounter hot and arid conditions, particularly in the southern regions where temperatures are expected to rise.
While Islamabad has experienced some alleviation from the heat due to rainfall in April and May, Director General of the Meteorology Department, Mahr Sahibzad Khan, cautions that the forthcoming days are likely to be sweltering. Furthermore, this year’s above-average rainfall in Pakistan, notably in Sindh and Balochistan, is expected to influence weather patterns.
