Following the suspension of a senior official from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) due to insufficient pursuit of cases in high courts, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has promptly appointed new Special Public Prosecutors to represent cases before various courts and tribunals, including the High Courts and Supreme Court of Pakistan.
In light of this, the SECP issued an S.R.O.(I)/2024 on Wednesday, disclosing that the Competent Authority of the SECP has appointed and re-designated officers/advocates as Special Public Prosecutors to handle all prosecutions related to offenses against any person or administered legislation.
These Special Public Prosecutors are authorized to initiate or defend cases, appeals, petitions, applications, and other legal matters before any court or tribunal, including the High Courts and Supreme Court of Pakistan, concerning matters arising from administered legislation.
The appointed Special Public Prosecutors will receive benefits corresponding to their respective grades as per the Schedule of Entitlement outlined in the HR Manual for Management Cadre.
Syed Farhan Shah has been appointed as Special Public Prosecutor for Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) and KP (High Courts, Court of Sessions & Special Courts/Tribunal). Fatima Shabbir has been appointed as Special Public Prosecutor for Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) and Rawalpindi (High Courts, Court of Sessions & Special Courts/Tribunal). Hassnain Raza has been appointed as Special Public Prosecutor for Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), Rawalpindi, and KPK (Court of Sessions & Special Courts/Tribunal).
Furthermore, the officers who were previously serving as Special Public Prosecutors have relinquished their respective responsibilities from the Prosecution & Civil Litigation Department and are consequently de-notified as Special Public Prosecutors, as per the SECP’s announcement.
