Islamabad: Former ARY News Journalist and anchorperson, Arshad Sharif, who was shot dead in Kenya yesterday, is on his way to the last visit to his homeland as his body is expected to arrive in Pakistan by tonight.
The 49-year-old journalist fled Pakistan a few months back in August to avoid arrest after he was slapped with sedition charges due to his controversial remarks in an interview with Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) leader Shahbaz Gill.
Arshad Sharif moved to Dubai after receiving death threats and later on relocated to Kenya.
Saqlain Syeda, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Kenya looked over and managed all arrangements for the repatriation of the journalist’s body at Nairobi Airport.
It was also confirmed by Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb that the postmortem of Arshad Sharif has been completed.
Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif also made a call to the Kenyan President to talk about the incident and has requested him to “ensure a fair and transparent investigation.”

The United Nations has also called for a thorough investigation of the incident and the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stated “I saw the tragic reports about the incident.”
