Shakira, the popular Colombian music star, has been called for trial by the Spanish Court for an allegation of tax fraud.
The singer has been accused of failing to pay 14.5 million euros ($13.9) in taxes on income earned between 2012 to 2014.
A court in Barcelona has ordered Shakira to stand trial for the tax crime and the Spanish prosecutors are seeking an eight-year prison sentence for her if found guilty.
However, the 45-year-old singer is denying any wrongdoing and recently said in an interview with Elle, Spain that, “I am confident that I have enough proof to support my case and that justice will prevail in my favour.”
Her legal team has also said in a statement that they would do their job “by presenting [the] arguments at the appropriate time”.
Just a few months ago Shakira had to face another hardship when Gerard Piqué, her ex-boyfriend, cheated on her.
