Rupee Depreciates Against USD But Holds Steady At 278

Today, the Pakistani rupee (PKR) started trading at 278 against the US Dollar in the interbank market, reversing its earlier gains.

Today’s trading saw a predominantly bearish trend, resulting in the Pakistani rupee (PKR) closing lower against the US Dollar and other major currencies.

Throughout the day, the interbank rate remained steady at 278 before ending at the same level. Similarly, open market rates across various currency counters stayed fixed at 278.

The PKR experienced a slight depreciation of 0.04 percent, closing at 278.2 after a loss of 10 paisas against the dollar.

On a fiscal year-to-date basis, the rupee has so far appreciated by 2.80 percent.

Overall, the rupee is down nearly Rs. 51.14 since January 2023. Since April 2022, it is down Rs. 95.14 against the greenback. As per the exchange rate movements seen during the session, the PKR lost 10 paisas today.

The PKR was red against most of the other major currencies in the interbank market today. It lost two paisas against the Saudi Riyal (SAR), three paisas against the UAE Dirham (AED), 26 paisas against the Australian Dollar (AUD), and 29 paisas against the British Pound (GBP).

Meanwhile, it was stable against the Euro (EUR) and gained 56 paisas against the Canadian Dollar (CAD) in today’s interbank currency market.
