The Prime Minister has assigned Secretary Finance Imdad Ullah Bosal with the responsibility of identifying officials responsible for the delay in implementing the Track and Trace System.
Sources informed ProPakistani that during the cabinet meeting on Friday, the Prime Minister expressed dissatisfaction with the report submitted by the Tariq Bajwa-led committee on Track and Trace. The report was criticized for not identifying FBR officials responsible for the failure to implement the Track and Trace system.
Sources revealed that the Prime Minister has instructed his trusted Secretary of Finance to identify those responsible for the poor implementation of the Track and Trace System (TTS), which resulted in serious lapses and delays. The committee was also mandated to ascertain accountability for the failure to integrate the tracking system across the supply chain.
According to sources, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) only partially implemented the TTS in industries such as Sugar, Cement, Fertilizer, and Tobacco factories, allegedly due to collusion with industrialists.
Reportedly, the committee led by Tariq Bajwa did not find any misconduct in the awarding of contracts. However, it attributed the delays and inadequate implementation of the TTS project to manufacturers and contractors.
