Pakistan Observes Defence Day and Martyrs Day

Islamabad: Today, 6th September, the nation is observing Defence and Martyrs’ Day to pay tribute to the martyrs with simplicity amid the disastrous floods.

The day is celebrated to celebrate the victory against India and commemorate the sacrifices of all the soldier who sacrificed themselves during the war on 6th September, 1965. A war broke our when the Indian forces crossed the international border in the darkness of night to launch an attack on Pakistan. However, the armed forced managed to beat back the Indian attacks.

Amid the disastrous floods that have submerged one-third of the country and taken over 1,300 lives so far, Pakistan Army postponed its annual Defence Day ceremony that is held at the General Headquarters.

On occasion of Defence Day, prayers were offered nationwide for the country’s progress and prosperity and for the independence of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

PM Shehbaz Sharif also issued tweeted “The whole nation comes together today in paying homage to our martyrs & Ghazis who put their lives on the line to defend the motherland against the Indian aggression. Together our armed forces & people thwarted the Indian machinations to undermine our territorial integrity.”

General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Army Staff said the day “symbolizes the unwavering resolve of Pakistan’s armed forces backed by the great Pakistan nation to defend the motherland against all odds”.

A number of ceremonies were held throughout the country. In Karachi, at Mazar-e-Iqbal, a graceful wreath-laying ceremony was organized where Garrison Commander Major General Muhammad Shahbaz Khan offered fateha and paid his respects to the founder of the nation.

In Lahore, at Lahore Miani Sahib Graveyard, General Officer Commanding Major General Malik Muhammad Amir Khan also laid a floral wreath at Major Shabir Sharif Shaheed’s (Nishan-e-Haider) grave to pay homage.
