A video gone viral shows K2 trashed

A video went viral over the internet yesterday which shows K2 turned into a dumpster after it witnessed record-breaking tourism this year.

A Twitter user, The Northerner, posted a video that showed K2, the world’s second highest mountain, trashed with plastic bottles, abandoned tents, and equipment along with several other types of garbage.

The present condition of the mountain is being blamed on the commercialization of mountain climbing. The Twitter user revealed that each climber had two members of the support staff who carried oxygen cylinders, tents, food, and human waste.

He also urged the authorities to impose a ban on the commercial outfit and keep this activity only open for people who strictly follow the traditions aka the “Purists”.

He further asked the government of Pakistan and the provincial government of Gilgit Baltistan (GB), as well as the Office of the Chief Secretary GB to take urgent steps for the fragile mountain glaciers and their ecosystem to prevent them from turning into dumpsters.

Consequently, The Northern also requested the authorities to impose a complete ban on all types of commercial adventure tourism that provides the tourists with dozens of oxygen cylinders, Sherpas (porters), and fixed ropes.
