A massive data breach in TikTok servers was discovered by cybersecurity researchers. The hack allegedly caused more than 2 billion of user account’s data to be compromised.
A hacking group posted images online that claim to include the app’s source code and personal user information that they obtained from the app’s breached server. However, TikTok has denied all such reports and the team said that they “found no evidence of a security breach”.
The hacking group that goes by the title of “AgainstTheWest” claim to have over 790 GB worth of user data, code, platform statistics, and more.
Maureen Shanahan, TikTok spokesperson told The Verge that “We have confirmed that the data samples in question are all publicly accessible and are not due to any compromise of TikTok systems, networks, or databases. We do not believe users need to take any proactive actions, and we remain committed to the safety and security of our global community.”
The hacking group have also claim to have stolen data from the Chinese messaging app WeChat, but the company is yet to respond to queries.
