Islamabad: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA)’s Cyber Crime Wing (CCW) arrested a man yesterday for impersonating a Supreme Court Judge.
The CCW had received several complaints against the suspect, Syed Faiz Ali, for scamming government officials and commoners, revealed an FIA spokesperson.
A team of specialists was assembled to track down and arrest him based on irrefutable evidence. The team apprehended him using scientific evidence and important documents that were recovered from his possession, the FIA spokesperson added.
While further investigation is underway, Faiz Ali has been charged under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).
Last month, the authorities also found a fake Twitter account of an SC Judge, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah. Due to this, the top court had to issue an official clarification that Justice Shah had not been not using Twitter or other social media accounts.
Additionally, reports of a Twitter account of Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa, the former Chief Justice of Pakistan were found to be inaccurate. His Secretary stated that the CJP had never had Twitter or Facebook accounts, and the fake account was reported to Twitter by the CCW, following the incident.
