Tuesday: Malala Yousafzai arrives in Pakistan to visit the flood-affected areas of the country.
The Nobel prize winner arrived at the Karachi Airport along with her parents via Qatar Airways flight. The family went to their residence under tight security.
Malala is set to visit the flood-affected regions to meet the affectees of the horrendous rains that caused flooding in one-third of the country.
This is her second visit to Pakistan after she moved to London. The 24-year-old was shot in the head by a Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) in 2012 when she was targeted for her campaign against women’s education. Malala Yousufzai then went on to become the youngest Nobel Peace Prize recipient for her advocacy efforts.
“Due to climate-related events, millions of girls lose their access to schools. Events like droughts and floods impact schools directly, displacements are caused due to some of these events,” Yousafzai said in a recent interview.
She further said, “Because of that, girls are impacted the most: they are the first ones to drop out of schools and the last ones to return.”
