On Monday, Lahore High Court Chief Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmed Khan sanctioned the termination of two civil judges, Saima Waheed and Imtiaz Ahmed, citing misconduct.
Following an investigation into allegations of misconduct against the two civil judges, the judicial authorities opted to terminate their positions.
In a separate development, the Chief Justice of Pakistan has raised concerns regarding the construction of guardrooms outside officials’ residences within the heavily guarded GOR-1 area in Lahore.
Upon communicating the Chief Justice of Pakistan’s concern, the Punjab government urged the removal of guardrooms from judges’ residences, directing the Registrar of the Lahore High Court accordingly.
In compliance with Justice Isa’s instructions, the Services & General Administrations Department (S&GAD) promptly contacted the Registrar of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on the same day.
They formally requested the elimination of guardrooms from the residences of 17 judges, providing detailed addresses and outlining precise locations for removal or relocation within the premises.
Reports suggest that aside from the Chief Secretary, IG Police, and Home Secretary, several other government officials residing in GOR-I are suspected of disregarding the concerns highlighted by the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
On April 20th, the Registrar of the Supreme Court wrote a letter to the Chief Secretary of Punjab to address this issue.
