Govt Approves PKR 21 billion For High-Speed Internet Across Pakistan

The Universal Service Fund (USF) board has approved PKR 21 billion to 10 contracts, which will work to provide high-speed cable and mobile internet services to the unserved and underserved places in Sindh, Punjab, Baluchistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK). 

Highway and Motorways projects, optical fiber cable projects, high-speed mobile internet, and broadband Internet projects will serve 3.5 million people with high-speed mobile internet (4G, LTE) and backhaul connectivity. All of these projects will connect 187 UCs with 1554 km of fiber optics and will provide consistent connectivity to a 622 km area consisting of unserved road segments on the M-8 motorway and N-35 highway.

In the 83rd USF board of directors meeting held on Saturday, Ministry of IT and Telecommunication Additional Secretary and USF Board Chairman Mohsin Mushtaq Chandna said that in the past 4 years Universal Service Fund has delivered a remarkable performance by signing 79 projects worth about PKR 62.7 billion in Subsidy. He also added this record productive performance of USF is a testament to our promise and commitment to improving the standard of living in underserved and unserved communities in all the provinces of Pakistan.

According to reports, Universal Service Fund Board approved PKR 7.1 billion to 5 high-speed mobile broadband contracts for providing LTE and 4G services in the remote and rural areas in Punjab, Baluchistan, and Sindh. Furthermore, Board approved PKR 6 billion for 2 high-speed mobile broadband projects for providing 4G and LTE services to travelers who will be commuting on unserved road segments of the N-35 highway and M-8 motorway. For the unserved and underserved areas of KP and Punjab USF has approved PKR 7.7 Billion for three fiber optics projects.
