Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal chaired a high-level meeting in Islamabad to address agriculture and electricity sector challenges affecting Balochistan’s populace.
Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Owais Leghari, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Qaiser Ahmad Sheikh, and Secretary Power, alongside key federal and provincial officials, attended the meeting.
The planning minister reiterated the commitment to accelerate the conversion of agricultural tube wells to solar energy in Balochistan. “The welfare of the people of Balochistan is paramount to us. We are fully dedicated to ensuring the timely completion of federal development projects in Balochistan,” he stated.
Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti addressed the significant challenges confronting farmers due to electricity shortages in the province. “Enhancing power transmission and supply is crucial for the agriculture sector,” Bugti emphasized.
He stressed the adoption of alternative energy sources such as solar energy harvesting and solar tube wells to improve the agriculture sector. Bugti reassured that the provincial government is committed to addressing obstacles faced by farmers. “Preventing electricity theft is a collective responsibility. Our government will take measures to curb it,” the chief minister asserted.
The planning minister urged the Power Division and the Provincial Government of Balochistan to devise a roadmap and strategy for transitioning underground tube wells to solar energy and to implement it promptly.
