A significant advancement for Pakistan’s defense capabilities, the inaugural ceremony of the first Hangor-class submarine was conducted at the Shuangliu Base of Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group (WSIG).

It’s noteworthy that China will construct the Hangor-class submarine for the Pakistan Navy. The event was attended by Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Naveed Ashraf.

As per the agreement between the two nations, China has pledged to provide Pakistan with eight state-of-the-art submarines.

As per the Transfer of Technology (ToT) agreement, WSIG will construct four of the eight vessels, while the remaining four will be built at KS&EW. These submarines, boasting advanced stealth capabilities, will be equipped with state-of-the-art weapons and sensors to operate effectively in a multi-threat environment, capable of engaging targets from stand-off ranges.

During his address as the chief guest at the event, CNS Ashraf emphasized the significance of maritime security in the current geo-strategic landscape. He reiterated the navy’s dedication to upholding regional peace and stability.

He emphasized that the Hangor-class S/M Project will “further strengthen the enduring Pak-China friendship and demonstrates robust military cooperation between the two nations.”

In February of this year, Pakistan commenced the construction of the 6th Hangor-class submarine at KS&EW. The close military relationship between Pakistan and China is evident, with the Pakistan Navy having recently inducted two newly built Chinese Type 054 A/P frigates last year.
