PTI leaders term the ban a “Fascist Move” as netizens on Twitter criticize the ban on Imran Khan’s live speeches.

After the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) decided to ban live broadcasting of former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s speeches on all satellite TV channels, Twitter erupted in a storm.

The ban was announced after Imran Khan warned the IG and DIG of Islamabad police, regarding registering a case against them for “torturing” party leader Shahbaz Gill during physical remand.

The former premier also called out Additional District and Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry for approving the police request for physical remand despite knowing that Gill was subjected to “torture”.

“Nawaz Sharif is banned because he is a convict,” retorted Fawad Chaudhry after journalist, Hamid Mir, called the move a “tit for tat” recalling the ban on Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)’s Nawaz Sharif speeches two years ago.

Fawad also added that “Imran Khan is being banned for fear of his speech. The ban has only exposed the rulers further and nothing else.”

The netizens had a lot to say about the ban, some downplayed the ban by saying that they “know how to use [the] internet without depending on electronic media”. Or “Do it for the sake of your peace,” said another supporter, “but you can’t stop this storm”.
